Q&A with Kate

Q. Did you study design?

A. Yes, I studied apparel design and management at Cornell University. I love the creative process. Designing beautiful shoes and accessories is something I’ve always enjoyed.

Q.  What was your favorite class at Cornell?

A. Hmmm..  If I have to choose one, it would be CAD design.  It was a new process for me at the time and it was challenging.  But I am very glad I learned it.

Q.  What made you decide to start your own company?

A.  I spent many years after college learning the ins and outs of design and manufacturing in New York.  I enjoyed working for major brands and retailers.  After being in the fashion industry for more than a decade, I wanted to create in a more meaningful way.  So I decided to start the Kate Whitcomb collection.

Q.  What is your design process like?

A.  I start with our modern women in mind.  Today’s woman is confident, independent and knows what she’s looking for.  I love how our clients always know the best materials, have an amazing sense of style and recognize great value!  Of course, I always incorporate comfort in every design!

Q.  Tell us more about Kate Whitcomb’s patented personalization technology.

A.  I developed the technology to offer a way to make our shoes a true one-of-a-kind piece.  I am always so honored to see these personalized shoes whether it’s celebrating their wedding or special birthday.
